These perky animals are cute only in the picture.

You can’t even imagine how destructive these critters are. They are able to damage your landscape design and even spread rabies and roundworms to people. That’s why as only you notice the first signs of raccoons in your yard, it’s high time to make your best to get rid of them.

You have to pay attention to garbage cans and bird feeders. If they are opened, empty, and damaged, it means some creatures have visited your yard in the night. It’s important to start your fight against invaders as soon as possible because they destroy even the most beautiful landscape design in no time. Moreover, they are able to leave you without harvest. There are several effective ways that will help you to keep your property without destructive animals.

Secure your trash

It sounds weird but it’s the first thing you should do. Intruders are attracted by the flavor of food leftovers or pet’s canned food. The tight-fitting and locked lids for your trash containers are a must. It’s up to you to control that the lids are always in their place. Moreover, it’s necessary to empty and clean the cans regularly.

No food outdoors

If you have dogs and cats you used to feed outdoors, it’s necessary to change your habits. It’s better to place the feeders indoors. As for the bird-feeders, you should hang them as high as possible. You have to remember that raccoons are able to climb on trees, jump, and run fast. Your task is to limit access to food sources.

At the same time, you should keep in mind that little intruders are nocturnal and omnivorous. It means they eat everything they find. Apples, peaches, sweet corn, peas, and potatoes become a good supper for animals. Even if you keep trash cans closed, it doesn’t matter the raccoons won’t visit your house. Yet, it’s not the reason to give up the idea of growing fruit and vegetables.

Use repellents

If you don’t want to install traps that hurt the animals, it’s possible to use various repellents that will keep intruders far away from your yard. It’s not a good idea to buy chemicals while these animals can not stand the aroma of garlic or chili. It’s enough to spread the mix of spices around the garden. If you live in a rainy area, you should repeat this procedure every type after rain. Instead of spices, it’s possible to use blood meal or wood ash.

Install reliable fence

This method may be effective only if you install the fence before planting your garden. Moreover, it’s a good idea to leave the lights on. The animals don’t like light and loud sounds. If’ it’s possible, you should turn the radio on for the whole night.

If none of the above-mentioned methods work, you may hire professionals who will help you to get rid of the annoying animals. Yet, it’s not the cheapest variant.

To conclude, it should be noticed that the problem with raccoons is not so difficult. It’s only necessary to keep your property in order.
