It’s possible to grown everything you want. The edible plants are the most popular choice among gardeners. To get a good harvest, it’s not enough to buy a pot, fill it with the soil and add seeds. If you want to get good crispy cucumbers, it’s worth taking into account the following tips.

Choose an appropriate breed

Of course, it’s possible to try to grow any breed in the container. Yet, if you want to get the best results you should plant such varieties as Sweet Success, Salad Bush, Early Pik, Salty or Crispy. They were cultivated especially for containers.

Pick up the right pot

Cucumbers have an extensive root system that requires a lot of space. If you choose a too small or tight model, your plant won’t grow. The ideal variant is a pot which may hold at least 5 gallons of soil. If it may hold more, it’s even better.

Soil requirements

You should use fertile soil. It’s a good idea to add compost or apply organic fertilizers. It gets the plant off to a good start and gives necessary nutrients. You can buy special mixtures at the store. If you want to use the soil from your neighbor’s garden, it’s important to remove all rocks and sticks. Yet, the experienced gardeners don’t recommend to use ordinary soil while it doesn’t drain well.

Planting cucumbers

You are not supposed to have big troubles with starting these vegetables from seed. The only exception is the residents of extremely cold regions. In this case, it’s better to grow seeds inside and only then transport them into the pot.

Required climate conditions

It’s clear that every vegetable needs definite climate conditions to grow fast and bring in the crops. When it comes to cucumbers there are three factors of significant importance. They are light, water, and temperature.

Consistent and ample watering is a must. It’s better to use special containers with a built-in drainage system. You should carefully control the level of moisture. The plants need at least 6 hours of sun per day. You should consider it when deciding to grow the vegetables. The temperature should be from 70 to 75 F. Frosty climate is not appropriate for vegetable growing.

Feeding

If you use fertilized soil, it’s better not to add extra organics for the first time. During the growing season, it’s possible to feed the plant with liquid fertilizer.

To conclude, it’s worth mentioning that growing cucumbers in pots is a profitable and interesting thing. Yet, you should make efforts to savor tasty crops.
